Reconnect: A Visual Narrative of Recreation Therapists
during COVID
In this project, we aim to share the experiences of front-line workers during the COVID pandemic through a visual narrative. Specifically, to tell the story of how recreation therapists have developed innovative ways to reconnect with patients during COVID.

Research and Background
Recreation therapists use recreation and leisure to improve functions as well as create optimal health and well-being for patients. Before COVID, group activities such as cooking class, chess time and bingo were ways to stimulate and entertain patients. However, group activities were canceled when COVID started. Many recreation therapists had to find others ways to reconnect with patients.
I reached out to the recreation therapist in the story, and gathered important information (eg. age of the patients, activities) to shape the visual narrative.
Concept
It was inspiring to hear the story of two patients who live on separate floors and how virtual activities, such as online chess, helped them to reconnect.

Rendering
I decided to have minimal texts/conversation throughout the visual narrative to emphasize the idea of social isolation during COVID.
